In 2005, WVU Tech transitioned from an NCAA DII Institution that competed in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference to the NAIA DI Mid-South Conference.
Since 1937, the NAIA has administered programs and championships in proper balance with the overall educational experience. In 2000, the NAIA reaffirmed its purpose to enhance the character-building aspects of sport. Through Champions of Character, the NAIA seeks to create an environment in which every student-athlete, coach, official and spectator is committed to the true spirit of competition through five tenets: respect, integrity, responsibility, servant leadership and sportsmanship. This helps to educate and create awareness of the positive character-building traits afforded by sports and return integrity to competition at the collegiate and youth levels while impacting all of society.
The NAIA provides exclusive opportunities for over 45,000 young men and women to achieve academically while competing for the love of the game. Member institutions award millions of dollars through athletic aid to eligible student-athletes and create an environment where competitive athletics, academic excellence and Champions of Character walk hand in hand.
The Mid-South Conference is also unique in its broad based athletic competition for men and women, offering championships in 15 sports.
In the MSC, the presidents of each school serves on the Board of Directors which directly oversees the conference and the office of the commissioner. This administrative “hands on” role of each school’s president is unique among athletic conferences and ensures a proper balance in the academic pursuits of student athletes.
True to the MSC’s commitment to broad based athletic competition, the Mid-South Conference recognizes the value of extensive campus based sports programs that maximize the opportunities for athletic competition among their students.
