Tech’s Director of Athletics, Frank Pergolizzi, in conjunction with the WVU Tech Hall of Fame Committee, has inducted the 2010 Athletic Hall of Fame Class in a weekend long celebration. All seven inductees, along with their family, friends and current Hall of Fame members gathered Friday evening in the Tech Center Ball Room to honor each other as a part of the tradition that is Tech athletics.

Hall of Fame inductees capped off their weekend celebration serving as honorary team captains of the football team Saturday – Tech went on to defeat Olivet, 31-9 to put the finishing touches on a successful weekend.

WVU Tech’s football squad opened up the 2010 on the right foot Saturday afternoon, taking it to the Tigers from Olivet Nazarene on a weekend the Golden Bears were honoring seven new Hall of Fame inductees.

Tech entered into the game with question marks in some key spots, and after a slightly shaky start, the Golden Bears settled in and rose to the occasion, handing down a 31-9 decision at Martin Field.

Gadberry Appointed to Head Softball Post

WVU Tech’s Director of Athletics, Frank Pergolizzi, has announced the appointment of Karin Gadberry to the Head Softball Coaching post. Gadberry assumes command of the Golden Bear softball program after spending the past four seasons as the First Assistant Coach at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana.

“We are very excited to have Karin take over our softball program”, said Pergolizzi. “We are confident that she will be able to continue to build on the progress that the program has made over the last two years under coach Michael Scott. Coach Gadberry has excellent experience as both a player and coach at the Division I level and we are pleased to have her at WVU Tech.”

The Golden Bear Athletic Club and the Department of Athletics will be hosting Tech’s First Annual, “Kickoff Cookout” with the WVU Tech Football, Volleyball and Women’s Soccer teams. All are invited to come out to Martin Field to eat, mingle with Tech Student Athletes, and catch a Golden Bear football preview.

Tech’s First year Women’s Basketball coach, Jenna Lehmann has announced the appointment of Liz Honegger as the newest addition to the Golden Bear Coaching ranks.

“I am very excited to have Liz join our program,” said Coach Lehmann. “She is a great role model with a strong basketball background. I expect her to have an immediate and positive impact on the growth of our team.”

The Mid-South Conference football coaches have tabbed Campbellsville University and Georgetown College the favorites in the Eastern Division and University of the Cumberlands the team to beat in the Western Division, according the MSC’s preseason coaching poll.

Golden Bear Wrestling Signs Trio

Jake Brumbelow and his WVU Tech Wrestling squad added three more to the party this week with the signing of Mikey Prince, Alex Buckley and Michael Cotterall.

WVU Tech Volleyball will be hosting two separate sessions of volleyball camp in July. Coach Belarmino and staff will hold an individual skills camp July 19th and 20th as well as a setter/hitter camp on the 22nd and 23rd of July. Both camps will be held in the Baisi Athletic Center on the Montgomery campus and will run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) has announced the NABC Honors Court. The Honors Court recognizes those collegiate basketball student athletes who excel in academics as well as the talents and gifts they possess off court. For the second season, Tech’s Thomsen was 1 of 75 student athletes selected nation wide.
