WVU Tech Announces 2009 Hall of Fame Class

WVU Tech Announces 2009 Hall of Fame Class – Banquet in the Tech Center Ballroom at 6pm

WVU Tech’s Director of Athletics, Frank Pergolizzi, has announced the members of the 2009 WVU Tech Athletic Hall of Fame Class to be inducted this Friday into the Kelley Hall of Fame.

WVU Tech Alum and long time supporter, Sandy Sturgill Huddleston; Golden Bear Football standout, Dr. Scott Glenn and Tech Basketball star, Arthur Culbreath round out the 2009 inductees.

Mrs. Huddleston has been an avid supporter of her alma mater. She was a member of Tech’s Board of Advisors and served on numerous fund-raising committees, including the Golden Bear Athletic Club and the Neal D. Baisi Athletic Center Renovation Project. Sandy has also chaired two athletic scholarship drives for former banking associates. In 2001, Mrs. Huddleston accepted the position of Executive Director of Tech Foundation, Inc. and the Tech Alumni Association after previously serving as a member of the Foundation’s Board of Directors. Sandy had also served as Vice President of the Tech Alumni Association from 1989-1991 and then as its President from 1991-1993. In 1990 she was chosen the Alumnus of the Year by Tech’s Community and Technical College, and in 1999 she was the recipient of the Tech Alumni Association’s Distinguished Service Award.

Dr. Scott Glenn majored in History and Government while playing football at WVU Tech. During his tenure at Tech, Glenn earned Who’s Who in America nominations and was a two-time All-America honorable mention and 1st Team All-League selection as a running back. Glenn led the West Virginia Conference in rushing back-to-back years during the 1980s and is currently WVUIT’s All-Time Leading Rusher. Glenn is a member of the United States Marine Corps and is also a published author for the AFCA: Adding Motivation to Coaching Concepts Can Be Self Contagious and has a doctoral dissertation entitled: An Ethnographic Qualitative Study of Barriers to Leadership for Black Administrators in Higher Education.

Dr. Glenn has also had successful stints as a high school Assistant Football and Head Football coach in Pennsylvania before acting as an Assistant coach at Albright College where he coached under E.J. Sandusky in 2004.
Arthur Culbreath was recruited to attend West Virginia Tech and play basketball by Hall of Fame member and former men’s basketball coach, Tom Sutherland. After missing his freshman season due to an injury, Arthur moved into the starting line up as a sophomore and made an immediate impact for the Golden Bears.
Culbreath led the Golden Bears in blocked shots as a shooting guard his sophomore season and was also named to the All Conference – All Tournament First Team for three consecutive seasons. Arthur was also named to the First Team West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletics Conference his junior and senior seasons at Tech and was also named the WMON player of the year two years in a row. He was also awarded the prestigious Orndoff Award which is given to the School Top Athlete at West Virginia Tech his senior season.

After leaving Tech, Culbreath made the USA National Handball Team where he competed from 1991 – 1997. In 1995 he won a silver medal in the Olympic Festival in Boulder Colorado. Arthur also competed in the Pan/American Games in Brazil as a player/coach where he lead the team to a fourth place finish.

The 2009 Hall of Fame induction banquet will take place Friday, October 9th, 2009 at 6:00pm in the Tech Center Ballroom.

Congratulations Scott Glenn! A deserving honor for an exceptional running back. It would have been great to have had another year to block for you during your senior season.
