Seven WVU Tech Women’s Soccer players receive Mid-South Conference recognition in this year’s 2009 season. Coach Florin Marton’s Golden Bears ended the season with an overall record of 9-6-3 including a 4-2-1 mark in the MSC.

Thonide Aristide, Monica Baker, Carla Carvalho, Hannah Jaskot, Caroline McKelvie, Bailey Scherbak, and Shaniece Thorpe all received All-Conference Honorable Mention in the Mid-South and led Tech to the semi-finals of the Mid-South Conference Tournament.

Along with the Honorable Mention awards, the WVU Tech Women’s Soccer team had six Academic All-Conference award winners: Goal Keeper Andrea Arias, Striker Hannah Jaskot, Mid-fielder Caroline McKelvie, Striker Tina Ottey, and Mid-fielders Bailey Scherbak and Sandra Villavicencio.

During the season Andrea Arias received three defensive players of the week. The week of August 31st, she received her first defensive player of the week. The second came on the week of October 19th and t he third coming on November 9th.

“Our women have shown tremendous improvement over the past three seasons”, stated Marton. “I am pleased that we are now a factor in the MSC, but we must continue to press forward. We are becoming a more solid program but our goal is to win championships.”
