Golden Bear Football Faces Tough Tiger Squad

Lindsey | September 25th, 2009
joshway pick Montgomery, WV –

WVU Tech will hit the road Saturday to take on the Tigers of Campbellsville University. Campbellsville is 1-2 on the season, but don’t be fooled by the record; the Tigers will be a huge challenge for the Golden Bears (2-1). Tech is coming off their first loss of the season against UVa-Wise, who managed to keep the Golden Bears out of the end zone and off the score board despite the Golden Bears gaining over 300 yards of total offense.

The Tigers will play host to the Golden Bears after dropping a hard fought 28-13 home decision to #10 ranked Lambuth University at Ron Finley Stadium. The lost was Campbellsville’s second in a row after suffering a setback on the road at the hands of Carson-Newman College in week two. The Tigers lone victory on the season came in their season opener when they defeated Cumberland University in a 38-37 thriller.

Campbellsville heads into Saturday’s match up averaging 395 yards per game thanks to an efficient offensive attack that ranks 17th in the nation in 3rd down conversions and 23rd in the nation in rushing offense.

Defensively, the Tigers are averaging right at 2 sacks per game and have only allowed 173 yards passing per game.

Despite Tech being shut out last week, the Golden Bears head into Saturday’s match up with the 18th ranked scoring offense in the nation and are averaging over 36 points per game. Look for Tech freshman JaJaun Smith to get involved early in the Golden Bears offense as a speedy counter to Jamel Shelton’s punishing running out of the backfield.

Head Coach Scott Tinsley and company worked hard correcting the little things that kept the Golden Bears out of the end zone last week. Tech hopes the hard work pays off Saturday against the Tigers as they look to even out their divisional record at 1-1.

Kick off is scheduled for 1:30pm at Ron Finley Stadium in Campbellsville.

I am real happy to see the football program get turned around. I played there between 1952-56. I was a local student-athlete. I attended Montgomery HS. I was at Tech on a football scholarship but also played Basketball and Baseball. I wish you continued success and the best of luck. I went on from Tech and had a very successful career in Fairfax, Va. as a TEACHER AND COACH. I WISH MY VERY BEST TO YOU AND THE TEAM.
