The forecast for Saturday’s game in Campbellsville Kentucky was scattered showers and mud. Lots of mud; and mud seemed to be one of the largest contributors to slowing down the high flying Golden Bear offense as Tech struggled to adjust to Mother Nature.

WVU Tech’s offense was determined to play their own game Saturday despite the conditions. The Golden Bears won the time of possession battle by nearly 5 minutes, threw for over 160 yards and even scored first; but Tech failed find the end zone the remainder of the game as they turned the ball over 5 times to the Tigers to end drives.

The Golden Bears struggled to hang onto the ball to start their offense with 10 fumbles coming on the snap exchange. Tech recovered 6 of the 10, but lost 4 to Campbellsville with 2 of those fumbles coming while the Golden Bears were driving inside the Tigers 20 yard line.

Michael Scott threw for 167 yards on 19 of 44 passing and was complimented out of the back field by Jamel Shelton’s 66 bruising yards on the ground.

Tech’s Jon Culbertson led the charge for the Golden Bear defense recording 13 tackles with 4 ½ of those being for losses. Culbertson also had an interception and recorded a sack for the fiery Golden Bear defense. Cecil Level chipped in 10 tackles for Tech while John Hellesoe and Gary Joshway both added a spark of their own to the defense with one interception a piece.

The 16-6 loss drops the upstart Tech squad to 2-2 on the season and 0-2 in the Mid-South Conference. The Golden Bears’ schedule isn’t going to get any easier as Tech heads to 10th ranked Union College (2-2) (1-1) next week.
