The WVU Tech women’s soccer team took to a cold, wet and muddy soccer field to face off against Mid-South foe, St. Catharine College Saturday. After scoring 4 goals against Mountain State earlier in the week, Coach Marton and company looked to get their offensive attack hitting on all cylinders again, this time, in the rain.

The Golden Bears didn’t disappoint. Tech mid-fielder, Caroline McKelvie scored just 7 minutes into the match off of a Shaniece Thorpe assist. Thorpe continued to let her presence on offense be felt after her 2 goal performance against MSU. McKelvie struck again for Tech just 3 minutes later to put the Golden bears ahead 2-0.

St. Catharine got on the board in the 25th minute of play when their offensive pressure forced Tech’s Kadene Lyttle into inadvertently redirecting a Patriot shot past Tech goalie, Andrea Arias.

The Patriots scored again in the 40th minute of play to draw even with the Golden Bears at 2-2.

But the second half of play was all WVU Tech as Carla Carvalho scored on a free kick from about 40 yards out with a beautiful strike to the upper 90. Carvalho struck again in the 73rd minute of play to put the game out of reach for the Patriots.

The 4-2 victory marks Tech’s second win in a row and their first in MSC Play.

The Golden Bears will return to action this Saturday when they travel to Salem International University.
