The Golden Bears took to the mat against visiting Penn State-Dubois Friday in what was scheduled to be their only home wrestling match of the season. After getting off to a shaky start, WVU Tech emerged from the match winning 3 out of 6 matches on the evening.
Tech’s Ben Wood (Sr. Charleston, WV) picked up the Golden Bears’ first victory of the match in the 174 weight class over Steven Terwillinger. Wood’s victory came in the first period by pin. Ben Harper (Sr. Dixie, WV) wrestled Jimmy Moshers in the 285 weight class to pick up Tech’s second victory of the match by pin while Jeffery Clifton (Fr. Sophin, WV) won by fall in the first period over Chris Rushmore to pick up the Golden Bears’ final victory of the match.
David Riggs (So. Virginia Beach, VA), Seth Gatewood (Sr. Summersville, WV) and John Jones (So. Scarbro, WV) each lost close matches in the 157lb, 184lb and 197lb weight classes respectively.
The WVU Tech wrestling squad will return to competition January 16th when they travel to Lexington, VA to compete in the Washington and Lee Invitational.
