Head Coach: Scott Tinsley

Coach Tinsley is entering into his third season at
WVU Tech after rejoining the Golden Bear staff after departing in 1989 for successful Collegiate (50-38-3) and High School (51-20) coaching stints.
Tinsley brings with him an upgraded version of his spread offense that currently holds numerous National and West Virginia records. Excitement and athleticism are the trademarks of Tinsley’s offense that is sure to thrill Golden Bear fans and light up the score board this season.
Tinsley’s most recent coaching stint was at Nitro High School, where he coached for 12 years, compiling a 51-20 record with the Wildcats and took home a State Championship in 1998.
The St. Albans native began his playing career as the Quarterback for Appalachian State in ’81 & ’82 before and injury sidelined him as a player. From ’83-’88 Coach Tinsley served as an Assistant Coach at Appalachian State before returning for his 1st coaching stint at WVU Tech as an Assistant in ’89. Tinsley then coached for 2 years as the Head Coach at West Virginia State University prior to accepting the Offensive Coordinator position at Nitro High School. Tinsley served as the Offensive Coordinator 6 years before finally accepting the Head Coaching position which he also held for 6 years.
While at Nitro, Tinsley also served as the Women’s Basketball team for 12 years and softball for 7 years.
Assistant Coach: Michael Scott

Michael Scott is entering into his third season as
WVU Tech’s Assistant Head Football Coach /Defensive Coordinator. This is his second stint coaching in the collegiate ranks; with his previous four years of experience coming from West Virginia State University where he coached both football and softball. Prior to joining the Golden Bear staff, Coach Scott spent his previous 6 years coaching football under Scott Tinsley at Nitro High School.
Off the field, Coach Scott has served 6 years in active duty in the United States Air Force and also served as a member of the City of Charleston Fire Department for the past 12 years. Michael Scott also attended West Virginia University where he played corner back in 4 consecutive bowl games.
Recently, Coach Scott has spent his off-field time speaking at Pittsburgh’s and Louisville’s Coach of the Year Clinics as well as creating videos and writing a book on the Stand up 3-5 defense.
Assistant Coach: Travis Everhart
Travis Everhart starts his first year on the Golden Bear Football staff as the offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator. Everhart comes to WVU Tech after serving as the assistant offensive line coach at Kent State University. While at Kent State, Everhart coached center Chris Anzevino who was named to the Rimington Trophy 2010 Spring Watch List. In 2009 Anzevino was on the field for 839 snaps and did not allow a sack.
Prior to his stint at Kent State, coach Everhart served as the offensive coordinator at Hiram College (2007-2008), where his offenses broke or tied 14 different school records. He coached quarterback, Trevor Henderson, to NCAC All-Conference Honors two seasons, along with breaking or tying eight school passing records. In Everhart’s two seasons as the offensive coordinator, Hiram more than doubled their total offensive yards and points per game.
Everhart also spent one year at Louisburg College, a junior college in Louisburg, NC (2006), as the offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator. Through his tutelage, coach Everhart helped tight end Jonathan Hannah to sign with Florida State University.
Everhart has had a vast amount of coaching experience including other stops at South Dakota Tech (2005-2006) and Tiffin University (2002-2003) where he served as the run game coordinator and offensive line coach. In addition, he was the tackle and tight ends coach at California University of Pennsylvania (2000-2001), was the running backs coach and assistant recruiting coordinator at Capital University (1999), and was the head football coach at Unioto High School in Chillicothe, OH (2004).
Coach Everhart has also had a lot of success coaching on the field as well, tutoring over 20 All Conference offensive lineman, 2 All Region lineman, and 2 All-Americans in his 12 years. Everhart’s offensive lines have paved the way for some very productive offenses. In the two years at California University of Pennsylvania, the Vulcan offense was ranked in the top 10 in rushing offense in the nation along with giving up the least amount of quarterback sacks in those two seasons in the PSAC. While at Tiffin University, the Dragon’s produced over 2,000 yards of rushing offense both seasons and were also ranked nationally in the top 30 for total offense.
Everhart, a native of Frankfort, Ohio, is a 1995 graduate of Adena High School and a 1999 Capital University graduate with a degree in Elementary Education. He also graduated from California University of Pennsylvania with a master’s degree in Geography and Regional Planning. As a player at Capital, Everhart started four seasons and earned four varsity letters at nose tackle and long snapper. He received the prestigious “Crusader Award” which is given to the player who best represents the characteristics of a champion on and off the field.
Everhart currently resides in Montgomery, WV.
